Panaji: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Goa criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘Tiffin Par Charcha’ campaign, denouncing it as insensitive to the struggles faced by the common man in the current economic situation. AAP leaders voiced their concerns during a protest held having discussions with common people while having food on patravali (Plates Made of Leaves) at Azad Maidan in Panaji.
AAP’s Goa President, Amit Palekar, strongly condemned the campaign, stating that it exacerbated the difficulties faced by the common man, who was finding it increasingly challenging to manage household expenses due to the soaring inflation. Palekar criticized the BJP government, referring to it as an ‘event management sarkar’ that prioritizes luxurious conferences at 5-star hotels while the common man suffers from unemployment and rising prices.
Valmiki Naik, an AAP leader, highlighted their party’s commitment to genuinely caring for the common man, claiming that AAP sets aside political considerations in favor of the people’s welfare.
Pratima Coutinho, another AAP leader, raised questions about the absence of BJP Mahila Morcha’s women activists, who had previously protested against the rising prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). She accused the BJP of betraying women voters by reneging on their promise of providing free cylinders. Coutinho further criticized the Pramod Sawant-led government for overspending on unnecessary events while causing delays in disbursing funds to beneficiaries of social welfare schemes.
The AAP’s protest underscored their discontent with the BJP’s campaign, which they argued failed to address the pressing concerns of the common man. The party positioned itself as a champion for the welfare of the people, contrasting with what they perceived as the BJP’s indifference to the hardships faced by the citizens of Goa.
