Panaji, Goa – Goa Congress Chief Amit Patkar strongly condemns the illegal and unjust arrest of Rama Kankonkar, a dedicated activist fighting to protect Goa from the reckless destruction caused by the corrupt BJP government. His arrest is yet another example of the BJP’s dictatorial tactics under Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, who is determined to silence every voice that resists his agenda of turning Goa into a concrete jungle.
Instead of arresting those who pose a real threat to democracy, the government is targeting activists who are fighting for Goa’s interests. The person who threatened the elected Panch member of Sancoale should have been arrested, not Rama Kankonkar. This blatant misuse of power shows that the BJP is shielding wrongdoers while suppressing those who stand up for the people.
The Indian National Congress stands in full solidarity with Rama Kankonkar and all Goans fighting against this injustice. We demand his immediate release and call upon the government to stop its undemocratic suppression of activists and concerned citizens. Goa’s identity, heritage, and environment are not for sale, and Congress will continue to stand with the people to resist BJP’s destructive policies claimed Patkar
