International Sex Trafficking Racket Busted by Mandrem Police with Assistance from Arz NGO

An international sex trafficking ring operating between Uganda and India has been dismantled thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Mandrem Police and the support of Arz NGO.

Modus Operandi and Victim Exploitation

According to SP North Shri Akshat Kaushal, the traffickers lured economically disadvantaged young single mothers from Uganda with false promises of employment in restaurants and cafes in Goa. Upon arrival in India, these women had their passports and visas confiscated and were coerced into prostitution under threats of violence.

The traffickers, a tightly-knit group led by Jojo Nakintu, primarily operated online via escort websites to solicit clients. They also recruited clients offline in areas such as the beaches and roads of Arambol.

Rescue Operation and Arrest

The breakthrough came when one of the victims managed to contact her embassy, leading to collaboration between the embassy and Goa police. This led to the location of the victims being discovered. Despite significant challenges, Mandrem Police Inspector and Arz NGO managed to rescue two victims and apprehended one trafficker.

The arrested trafficker has been identified as Ms. Jojo Nakintu, a 31-year-old Ugandan national. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under sections 370 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 4, 5, and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

Victim Support and Ongoing Investigation

The rescued women have been placed in a Protective Home in Merces. The investigation is ongoing, led by PI Mandrem PS Sheriff Jaques under the supervision of SDPO Pernem Jivba Dalvi and SP North Akshat Kaushal IPS.
