Ponda, March 17, 2026: The Ponda Block Youth Congress, led by its President Faizan Shaikh, submitted a memorandum to the Assistant Engineer of the Electricity Department in Ponda, raising concerns over a sharp and unexplained spike in electricity bills across the constituency.

According to the Youth Congress, several consumers have received bills amounting to nearly ten times their usual charges, causing significant financial strain on households and small businesses. The organisation alleged that the surge could be due to technical faults, faulty meter readings or systemic billing errors, and demanded immediate intervention.

The memorandum was submitted in the presence of former Panch Sudhir Raut and NSUI State President aspirant Focrodino, who supported the concerns raised. Sudhir Raut highlighted the distress faced by residents at the grassroots level and urged the department to take swift corrective measures to prevent recurrence. Focrodino stressed the need for transparency and accountability in the billing process, assuring continued support from NSUI and the Youth Congress in taking up public grievances.

Terming the issue as serious and unacceptable, the Youth Congress has called for a thorough investigation, prompt rectification of discrepancies and relief for affected consumers. Faizan Shaikh stated that the organisation will continue to stand with the people of Ponda and oppose any unjust financial burden imposed on them.

The Youth Congress has urged authorities to act swiftly to resolve the issue and restore public confidence in the system.
