PANAJI: The Congress and Goa Forward Party on Monday alleged that BJP is using government machinery to sabotage the campaign of the opposition fearing defeat.
Congress General Secretary Sunil Kawthankar and Goa Forward General Secretary (Org) Durgadas Kamat on Monday jointly addressed a press conference in Panaji and said that BJP will have to face the music if unnecessary action is taken against alliance partners.
Sunil Kawthankar said that the essence of democracy is under threat as BJP is using government machinery to deter opposition from campaigning.
“BJP leaders are campaigning with more than ten supporters. But no action has been taken against them. BJP government is only harassing Congress even if we campaign by abiding all rules.” He said.
Kawthankar said that BJP is on back foot to see support Congress is getting from across Goa. “BJP is in frustration mode and hence are targeting leaders of the opposition.” He said.
Kamat said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will have to face court after Congress and Goa Forward government comes to power. “Chief Minister is misusing his power and harassing oppositions. We will not sit quietly, but will write to the election commission at Delhi against the actions of BJP. “ He said.
He alleged that government officials have become puppets of the government and are working at the behest of BJP leaders. “Government officials should understand that BJP will face defeat and Congress along with Goa Forward will form the next government. They should stop working at the behest of the BJP.” Kamat said.
Kamat further said that the BJP government could further file fake FIRs against opposition parties and try to suppress voice. “We know the plans of BJP, about how it will deter us. But we will fight against their dadagiri.” Kamat said.
