15th ‘Scientifica’ National Physiotherapy Conference Concludes Successfully at GMC

Bambolim, Goa: The 15th edition of the ‘Scientifica’ National Physiotherapy Conference, held on November 16 and 17, 2024, at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, successfully brought together over 600 delegates to explore the theme “Embracing AI Technology: Transforming the Future of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation.” The event was organized by the Physiotherapy Course, Allied Health Science Courses, and the Department of Orthopedics at GMC in collaboration with the Sancheti Institute of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation College of Physiotherapy, Pune.

Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Y. Naik, inaugurated the conference, emphasizing the crucial role of physiotherapy in public health and recovery. Distinguished attendees included Shri Vishwajit Rane, Goa’s Minister for Health, and Dr. K.H. Sancheti, Founder of Sancheti Hospital, who served as Chief Patrons, alongside GMC Dean Prof. Dr. S.M. Bandekar and other dignitaries from Sancheti Hospital.

A highlight of the conference was the felicitation of Prof. Dr. S.M. Bandekar for his decade-long contributions to physiotherapy education and research. Renowned speakers such as Dr. Michael Row from the University of Lincoln, UK, and Dr. Rohini Ganjoo from George Washington University, USA, presented impactful sessions on AI’s integration into physiotherapy.

The event featured over 100 scientific paper presentations, panel discussions, competitions, and hands-on workshops, showcasing innovative AI applications in physiotherapy. Led by organizing chairpersons Dr. Jorida Fernandes and Dr. Apurv Shimpi, the conference witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and clinical therapists, ensuring its resounding success.

This milestone event underscored the transformative potential of AI in physiotherapy and rehabilitation, fostering collaboration and innovation within the healthcare community.
