Margao – I am deeply concerned by the recent unilateral announcement by the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), regarding the temporary closure of the Rawanfond Circle to Power House Road due to a potential landslide threat. We demand public accountability and clarity, stated Madganvcho Awaaz & Youth Leader Prabhav Naik.

While I fully support any and all actions that protect public safety, such decisions must be backed by transparency, inter-departmental coordination, and public accountability. As a concerned citizen and representative of the people’s voice, I seek clarity on Was the South Goa District Collector and Disaster Management Authority (DMA) consulted? questioned Prabhav Naik.

A potential landslide falls under the purview of Disaster Management Authority. It is essential that the District Administration, PWD, and local disaster response teams are involved in both assessment and decision-making processes. Was a technical inspection conducted? Prabhav Naik has asked the authorities.

Has any official geological or structural inspection been carried out to confirm the landslide risk? If so, the findings should be made public immediately to prevent misinformation and maintain public trust. What is the timeline and plan for restoration? Citizens need to know what short-term mitigation and long-term preventive measures are being planned. A clear timeline must be communicated for the safe reopening of the road, stated Prabhav Naik.

Have responsibilities been assigned? In emergency situations, coordination between PWD, Traffic Police, Fire & Emergency Services, and local self-governments is crucial. Who is in charge of monitoring and communicating progress? Madganvkars want answers, said Prabhav Naik.

The closure of this busy route has significant implications for commuters, emergency services, and daily livelihoods. The public deserves answers, not just instructions. I call upon the District Collector of South Goa Immediately issue a status report on the situation, Convene a joint inspection with experts and stakeholders, and formally clarify the roles and decisions taken so far, demanded Prabhav Naik.

This is not about politics or blame, this is about preparedness, transparency, and public safety. I assure the public of full support in ensuring that Madganvkars are informed, protected, and respected in all decisions affecting their daily lives, said Prabhav Naik.
