Two Arrested for Brutally Assaulting Street Dog in Old Goa; Video Goes Viral

Old Goa Police have arrested two individuals in connection with a shocking case of animal cruelty that surfaced after a disturbing video went viral on social media. The footage, widely shared on May 6, 2025, showed two men mercilessly beating a stray dog with a wooden stick.

Following the video’s circulation, a formal complaint was filed by Mr. Stephen Samuel, Field Officer with the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA). Based on the complaint, an offence was registered at Old Goa Police Station under Crime No. 66/2025 for offences punishable under Section 325 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Investigating officers reviewed CCTV footage from the surrounding area, which led to the identification of the two accused as Jogindar Singh (32), son of Sripal, a driver residing near Bharat Petrol Pump, Kadamba Bypass Road, Old Goa, and Anil Kumar (28), son of Shyam Lal from Madhavapur, Uttar Pradesh, currently also residing near the same petrol pump in Old Goa.

Upon interrogation, both individuals confessed to the assault and were subsequently arrested on May 12, 2025. They were later released on bail after furnishing surety.

The investigation was carried out by a team from Old Goa Police Station comprising PSI Saish Bhonsale, PSI Anish Naik, PC 6052 Sudesh Sawant, and PC Gitesh Gawas, under the supervision of PI Shri Vijaykumar Chodankar, SDPO Panaji Shri Sudesh Naik, and SP North Shri Rahul Gupta.

Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
