goaplusnewsGoa, 17th July 2024 – Expenditure on travel exhibitions in the country, as well as travel exhibitions and roadshows abroad are vital for transforming Goa’s image from merely a beach and party destination to a region celebrated for its rich culture and tradition and promoting Goa’s authentic heritage is essential to attract tourists interested in exploring the state’s diverse cultural offerings, asserted Shri. Rohan A. Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, while replying to questions in the Goa assembly today.
Shri. Khaunte said that Goa attracted a high number of visitors from the UK and Russia. The Roadshows are part of a broader strategy to diversify Goa’s tourism base and attract a wider range of visitors. The Minister noted that the increasing interest from these markets is a testament to Goa’s appeal beyond its beaches, emphasizing its cultural richness and diverse attractions.
The Minister discussed the vital role of Goa’s participation in various national and international roadshows stating, “These events are crucial platforms for promoting Goa’s tourism potential and for establishing connections with travel industry stakeholders. During these exhibitions we take co-exhibitors from Goa. The events feature B2B meetings and G2B. By showcasing Goa’s diverse offerings, these roadshows help in changing the narrative and expanding the state’s tourism appeal.”
Industry participation and decision-making are integral to this strategy, with the Empower Committee consulting the industry for selecting roadshows and exhibitions. Significant agreements, such as the MakeMyTrip MOU, MasterCard MOU and Airbnb MOU, among many others, have emerged through this collaborative participation, further enhancing Goa’s global tourism appeal.
Shri. Khaunte stressed the need to shift the perception of Goa from being solely a beach destination to one that includes regenerative tourism, cultural heritage, and unique homestay experiences. The roadshows feature interactive sessions, and presentations, and feature elements of Regenerative Tourism that highlight Goa’s multifaceted attractions, encouraging tourists to explore beyond the beaches.
During these events, the importance of promoting Regenerative Tourism practices is highlighted, which focus on sustainability and community engagement. This approach not only enhances the visitor experience but also supports local economies. Homestays were highlighted as a significant component of this strategy, offering tourists an authentic experience of Goan culture and lifestyle while benefiting local families and communities.
