goaplusnewsThe 77th World Health Day, themed as “Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures” is being marked on 7th April. The theme emphasises upon maternity related health care & on prioritising women’s longer-term health and well-being.
Vedanta Sesa Goa has over the decades partnered the communities in promoting holistic health care. The company’s Project ‘Aarogya’, spearheads health & well-being initiatives such as the Mobile Health Units (MHUs), Community Medical Centres (CMCs), specialised health camps, supporting government missions like TB Mukt Bharat, distributing mobility aids to the specially abled, and enhancing hospital infrastructure. The project has been active since 2006 & its reach and relevance have grown deeper. Over the years the MHUs operating across Sesa Goa locations, have conducted over 3 lakh OPDs, offering affordable basic healthcare to some of the most inaccessible regions. The company’s MHUs & CMCs in Bicholim, Amona & Sankhli have further strengthened the local health ecosystem & helped create a dependable healthcare touchpoint within the villages.
As part of its initiatives to promote women’s health, Vedanta Sesa Goa has been organising health screenings, specialised health camps, diabetes and blood pressure check-ups, awareness camps on cervical cancer, maternity & menstrual health. For the larger community as well, the Company has conducted several specialised health camps.
The company also has a well-developed in-house protocol for focussing on the health & well-being of its employees. It also has a strong focus on employee volunteerism wherein over 800 units of blood have been donated by its employees in the last 12 months alone for community causes.
Expressing his thoughts on the occasion, Mr Navin Jaju, CEO Sesa Goa, said “Good health & well-being of the community plays an important role in furthering holistic societal progress. We, at Vedanta Sesa Goa, are proud of our footprint through Project ‘Aarogya’, in promoting health initiatives across all our locations. Mobile Health Units, Specialised Health Camps, Equipment Distribution & Eye Camps are some of our key interventions through which we are partnering the communities in fostering good health. Sesa Goa remains committed to ‘giving back’ meaningfully to the society.”
Speaking on the occasion of World Health Day, Ms. Leena Verenkar, CSR Head – Vedanta Sesa Goa, said: “At Vedanta Sesa Goa, we believe that true community transformation begins with good health. Project Aarogya is a reflection of our core philosophy of giving back to society—by ensuring that quality healthcare is not a privilege, but a right accessible to all. Through doorstep medical services, infrastructure support, and preventive health awareness, we are empowering communities to take charge of their well-being and building the foundation for a healthier, more equitable future.”
Under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, the company supported TB patients in Goa and Maharashtra by providing nutritional baskets—an effort that earned them a ‘Nikshay Mitra’ recognition from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Recently, the company partnered with Our Lady of Grace Hospital in Bicholim, Goa, to upgrade and refurbish the Out-Patient Department (OPD).
Events like the Republic Run, Mayem Marathon in Goa, played a crucial role in promoting active lifestyles among community members. Adding to the company’s proactive efforts, the Anil Agarwal Foundation’s TACO initiative signed a MoU with the Government of Goa to work towards making the state rabies-free, further extending Vedanta’s footprint in public health initiatives.
This World Health Day, Vedanta Sesa Goa continues to strengthen its resolve—to be not just a provider of healthcare, but a partner in building resilient, self-reliant communities. From accessible medical care and infrastructure upgrades to awareness sessions and wellness runs, every initiative is a step toward a future where good health is not a privilege, but a shared right. And with that, the journey of ‘transforming for good’ goes on.
