Margao, Goa – It has been two years since Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant laid the foundation stone for two major infrastructure projects in Margao, the six-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Rawanfond and the widening and improvement of the road from Khareband Bridge to Rawanfond Circle. Despite much fanfare and public assurance, ground-level work on these projects has yet to commence, stated Madganvcho Awaaz and Youth Leader Prabhav Naik.
Reacting on the delay, Prabhav Naik posted a sarcastic post on his verified social media platforms which read “2nd anniversary of inefficiency. Two years since the grand foundation stone ceremony of Road Over Bridge & Road Widening from Khareband to Rawanfond. Still waiting for the ‘foundation’ to show up. Must be using invisible concrete. 2 years since the foundation stone was laid. The only thing laid to rest seems to be the project”.
These projects, announced in 2023 with a combined estimated cost of Rs 84 crore, were expected to bring significant relief to Margao’s growing traffic woes and infrastructure challenges. The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) was tasked with implementation. However, for two years after the foundation stone was layed, the city continues to struggle with the same traffic congestion and deteriorating road conditions, pointed Prabhav Naik.
Adding to public disappointment, other promises made during the same event including a modern KTC bus stand and a new medical college for South Goa also remain on paper. The Chief Minister had assured completion of these projects within four years, but with no visible progress, those assurances now ring hollow, claimed Prabhav Naik.
Citizens of Margao deserve transparency, accountability, and action. The delay in executing these crucial projects raises serious questions about the government’s commitment to South Goa’s development. We call upon the Chief Minister, the GSIDC, and the concerned authorities to provide a clear update on the status of these projects and to set a concrete timeline for their commencement and completion, demanded Prabhav Naik.
