Goa, 24th July 2024 – Manipal Hospital Goa successfully completed a groundbreaking restorative surgery. The procedure was performed by Dr. Amey Pednekar, Consultant – Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, Manipal Hospital Goa, and his team on Mr. Mahadev Sawant, a 50-year-old resident of Sawantwadi.
Mr. Sawant’s grinder slipped from his hand, resulting in multiple injuries to the index, middle, ring, and little fingers of his right hand. He experienced severe pain, and his wounds were bleeding heavily. His family promptly took him to a nearby hospital, where he received basic first aid and proper bandaging. He was then advised to seek further medical care in Goa. Upon visiting two local hospitals in Goa, he was informed that the damage to his fingers was irreparable and that amputation was necessary.

After consulting with Dr. Pednekar at Manipal Hospital in Goa, Mr. Sawant was advised to undergo emergency restorative surgery, which was performed following a discussion with his family. Despite the severity of his injuries, the medical team led by Dr. Amey Pednekar completed a complex 4-hour surgery, repairing bony fractures, damaged blood vessels, nerves, and severed tendons. A small corrective procedure was required on the third day post-operation, and he was discharged on the fifth day.
Six weeks post-operation, Mr. Sawant is recovering well, with all injured fingers functioning and receiving physiotherapy for optimal recovery. Dr. Pednekar and his team’s expert care and dedication have been pivotal in Mr. Sawant’s recovery.
