Margao – The deteriorating infrastructure around Goa’s most critical healthcare facilities is no longer just a civic concern, it has become a public health crisis. Both South Goa District Hospital (Hospicio) in Margao and Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim are grappling with repeated flooding, broken access roads, and failed drainage systems that are putting thousands of lives at risk, Madganvcho Awaaz & Youth Leader Prabhav Naik has brought this to the notice of Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari in a letter sent to him today.
During Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s recent visit to Goa, I had publicly urged him via social media to personally inspect the condition of the South Goa District Hospital. Regrettably, no such visit took place. Meanwhile, conditions remain the same. The main entrance of Hospicio is a swamp during monsoon, forcing doctors, patients, emergency staff, and ambulances to wade through stagnant, filthy water, a disgrace to any healthcare system, stated Prabhav Naik .
In his letter, Prabhav Naik has also stated that the situation at GMC Bambolim is equally appalling. Poorly planned access roads and repeated flooding make timely medical access nearly impossible particularly for ambulances stuck in traffic or waterlogged roads. These two hospitals serve thousands daily. The current conditions are not only hampering healthcare delivery but undermining basic human dignity, letter states.
At the heart of this crisis lies shockingly poor road engineering and drainage design, compounded by a lack of accountability. This is a systemic failure, and those responsible contractors, executing authorities, and oversight agencies must be held accountable. We can no longer normalize such negligence around life-saving institutions, urged Prabhav Naik.
Madganvcho Awaaz & Youth Leader Prabhav Naik has urged Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to take swift action and Conduct immediate on-ground inspections of both hospital access roads, Initiate a technical audit of the faulty infrastructure, Take corrective action against those responsible, Implement urgent short-term fixes and Ensure a long-term infrastructure overhaul.
The people of Goa do not demand miracles but they do demand accountability, dignity, and safe public infrastructure especially around our hospitals. The time to act is now, Prabhav Naik stated in his letter.
