Margao – Madganvcho Awaaz has submitted a Memorandum to Margao Municipal Council demanding Rollback of steep hike in fees and taxes including trade licences, construction permits, sanitation fees and other municipal charges and demanded for White Paper on Services provided by Margao Municipal Council and performance appraisal of Councillors and Employees in last 4 years.
Giving reference of the earlier demand of Madganvcho Awaaz made on 1st March 2025 immediately after Margao Municipal Council decided to increase taxes and fees , Memorandum signed by Youth Leader Prabhav Naik and addressed to Chief Officer has demanded a “White Paper” on various services provided by the Margao Municipal Council including Scientific Waste Management, Availability of Hygienic Toilets & Changing Rooms, Drinking Water Kiosks, Upkeep and Safety & Security of Markets, Maintainance of Traffic Islands & Public Places, Action against Illegalities & Irregularities and Performance Appraisal of Municipal Employees and Councillors.
These hikes are putting heavy financial burden on the Citizens who are law abiding and give an unfair advantage to all those who do illegal business and activities with the patronage of Margao Municipal Council. There is complete Mismanagement in Margao Municipal Council which is highlighted in the Audit Reports. Margao Municipal Council has miserably failed to maintain the public places, provide time bound services to citizens and above all there is rampant corruption in the Municipality, Prabhav Naik has stated in the memorandum.
If the arguement is fees and taxes were not hiked in last 15 years, we demand that Margao Municipal Council should first explain in “White Paper” what improvements have been made in Services, Upkeep, Administration and Management by Margao Municipal Council in last 15 years, said Prabhav Naik.
We say that things have gone from bad to worst. We demand that the hikes in fees and taxes should be rolled back immediately. Margao Municipal Council should first increase pace of providing time bound services to citizens and ending corruption, stated Prabhav Naik.
