Margao: Digambar Kamat, a former Congress MLA who joined the BJP, stated that the decision to induct him into Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s Cabinet rests with the BJP leadership, emphasizing that he has never sought any position within the party.

Kamat Comments on Lok Sabha Poll Outcome in Margao Constituency

Kamat attributed the Lok Sabha poll results in his Margao constituency to the national Muslim community’s decision to vote against the BJP. He noted that the anticipated lead for the BJP in Margao was reduced due to voters from Moti Dongor, Azad Nagar, and Fakir Bandh favoring the Congress in the election.

Despite the BJP’s strong performance in its strongholds, Kamat acknowledged that this was insufficient to counteract the Congress gains in Salcete taluka.

Impact of Revolutionary Goans Party

Kamat also pointed out that the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) had an adverse impact on the BJP compared to Congress, highlighting the votes garnered by the RGP in the hinterland regions of Madkai, Ponda, Shiroda, Sanvordem, Sanguem, Quepem, and Canacona.

Regarding his future, Kamat reiterated that it is up to the party to decide whether he should be given a ministerial position, stating, “I have nothing to say about my future. It is for the party to take a call on the question of bestowing me with the ministerial position.”
