Panaji, April 29, 2025:
In a powerful show of unity, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has launched the Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan, urging Goans to join a mass protest at Azad Maidan today at 4:30 PM. The movement, described as historic by party leaders, aims to rally public support against what they term the BJP government’s “betrayal” of Goa’s identity, resources, and future.

Addressing the media, Goa Congress President Amit Patkar said the state is at a critical crossroads, suffering under failed policies, rampant corruption, and systematic erosion of its unique heritage. “Goa once stood as a symbol of prosperity and pride. Today, under BJP rule, it suffocates under injustice, unemployment, and corporate exploitation,” Patkar said.

The protest will highlight several pressing concerns:

Drug Menace: Congress accused the government of turning a blind eye to the drug trade, endangering the lives of Goan youth and tarnishing the state’s global image.

Unemployment Crisis: With around 12,000 new jobseekers every year, the Congress slammed the administration for failing to create opportunities, alleging that outsiders are being preferred over locals in key industries.

Rising Injustice: Party leaders pointed to increasing cases of atrocities against women, Dalits, and tribal communities, accusing the government of shielding the powerful instead of ensuring justice.

Corporate Cronyism: Goa Congress criticized rampant land sales to big corporations, citing Rs 350 crores pending from the casino industry, and accused the government of prioritizing corporate interests over citizens’ welfare.

Failure of Governance: Highlighting failures in basic services like water, power, and infrastructure, the party accused the government of abandoning the common Goan in favor of mega-projects and unfulfilled promises.

“Goa deserves better. Our fight is not just political—it is a fight for Goa’s soul, its land, its people, and its future,” said Patkar, urging Goans across the state to participate and “raise their voices for justice, culture, and the Constitution.”

The Congress leadership emphasized that today’s protest marks the beginning of a larger movement to reclaim Goa from corruption, injustice, and corporate exploitation.
