Margao – Madganvcho Awaaz led by youth leader Prabhav Naik today submitted a memorandum to South Goa Supritendent of Police Sunita Sawant urging her immediate intervention to ensure safety and security of Citizens of Margao.

In the memorandum, Prabhav Naik has stated that there is complete fear and anxiety in the minds of residents of Margao due to steep rise in thefts, robberies and
criminal activities. Spree of thefts and robberies which have taken place in
last fortnight is a matter of great concern with respect to the safety and
security of the citizens.

The CCTV footages which have become viral on social
media have exposed the failure of the law enforcing authorities. It has come
to light that the robbers have no fear and dare to break open the shops and
establishments on the main roads of the Margao city during wee hours when
there is continuous vehicular traffic moment. This shows that the Police
department have miserably failed to conduct night vigil patrolling and
nakabandhis at crucial junctions, Prabhav Naik has stated in the memorandum.

The memorandum also refers to the New Market Traders Association who have raised apprehensions over the
efficiency of the law enforcing authorities. In the memorandum, Madganvcho Awaaz has drawn the attention of the Superitendent of Police on some of the establishments such as bars and taverns operating beyond
the stipulated timings and rampant rise in gambling dens in and around
Margao.

There are reports of fights between antisocial elements who are under the
influence of Alcohol and narcotic substances. Various media reports have also
brought to light that sale of narcotic substances is on a rise, Prabhav Naik has mentioned in the memorandum.

We request your immediate intervention to stop these
thefts, robberies and crimes and also to take stringent action against the anti
social elements who are disturbing the peace in the society. It is important
that the police department provides safety and security to the senior citizens;
especially those who reside alone in their homes, states the memorandum.

As most of the Goans prefer to celebrate eve of new year as well as the new
year visiting places of worships and also attend celebrations away from their
residences, the anti social elements and criminals are likely to take this
opportunity to conduct thefts and robberies. The traffic management in the
city also needs to be regularised during these days. I appeal to you to deploy
police & traffic personnels at various churches and chapels during the
midnight mass to ensure that safety is provided to the people and there is no
traffic congestion. Strict action needs to be taken against drunken driving to
avoid fatal accidents, mentions the memorandum urging the Police to take serious cognisance of the issues highlighted in the memorandum and
take immediate steps.
