In a meeting held on September 2, 2024, at Mantralaya, Porvorim, the Honorable Chief Minister chaired the NEP Steering Committee session to assess the progress of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Goa’s school education system.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed key updates presented by the Secretary of Education, who outlined the successful notification of the State Curriculum Framework for the Foundational and Secondary Stages, the development and distribution of curricula for Foundational Stages I and II, and the allocation of Art and Vocational Education teachers to all schools as part of NEP-2020.
Other highlights included the training of Class IX teachers in Learning Outcomes, Assessment Rubrics, and Evaluation Patterns, along with specialized training for 80 Mathematics and Science teachers at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The formation of State Curriculum Development Committees for the Preparatory and Middle Stages was also discussed, with these committees set to develop curricula for the next academic year. Taluka-level visits will soon be conducted to engage schools individually and address any challenges.
In preparation for the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024, scheduled for November 19, 2024, pre-tests for students in Classes 3, 6, and 9 will be held on September 4, 2024. Schools will receive daily practice questions through Vidya Samiksha Kedra (SCERT) to aid in student preparation.
The review also covered the New India Literacy Mission, with the Chief Minister instructing the Director of Panchayats and the Director of Municipal Administration to collect lists of illiterates from Secretaries and Chief Officers or certify that their areas are fully literate.
Additionally, the ULHAAS Scheme was reviewed, and the Chief Minister directed the Directorate of Social Welfare to consider utilizing Panchayat Halls as UMID centers in regions lacking established facilities.
