Panaji: Reacting to the statement of Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar that he has no role in affairs of Mhadei, the Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Tuesday slammed BJP government for wasting time over diversion of water issue.

“Speaker Ramesh Tawadkars actions have exposed incapacitated BJP government in Goa for wasting time on the Mhadei issue. By passing the buck to those without the power to interfere in water diversion, the BJP government has demonstrated its ineptitude. It is least bothered of the Mhadei issue, which is the lifeline of Goa,” Alemao said.

Recalling the statement of WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar, after holding a second meeting of the House Committee on January 8, that former will request the speaker to write his counterpart in Karnataka to seek approval for the inspection, Yuri Alemao said that latter rejection has exposed the BJP government.

“Tawadkar has told the media that he has not received any communication from the House Committee Chairman and he has clarified that he has no role in the affairs of Mhadei dispute. This means BJP government is doing time pass,” he said.

“Ramesh Tawadkar’s actions have acknowledged the allegations levelled by the opposition. BJP has sold the Mhadei to Karnataka. BJP leaders are not serious about protecting Mhadei and hence they are using several tactics to delay the process to save Mhadei,” Alemao said.

“Environmentalist and Goemkars have expressed concern over the attempts made by Karnataka to divert water from Mhadei. But surprisingly Bjp government is not bothered of Karnataka’s activities. They have given them a free hand to do whatever they want, this is unacceptable,” Alemao said.

“Heartless and liar BJP stands exposed over Mhadei. It has allowed Karnataka to do whatever they want to divert Mhadei. Earlier, Home Minister Amit Shah had stated that a long dispute between Goa and Karnataka has been resolved allowing them to divert the river. This has come true now,” Alemao said.
