Margao: Seven opposition MLAs from Congress, AAP, RGP, and Goa Forward held a meeting in Margao and announced their plan to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his intervention in the ongoing ‘cash for job’ scandal. They argued that deserving candidates have been denied government jobs due to rampant corruption and a lack of proper investigation.
The MLAs criticized the Goa Police, accusing them of acting as spokespersons for the BJP and issuing premature clean chits to implicated ministers. “The police investigations are flawed and biased, ensuring that the ‘big fishes’ involved remain untouched,” they stated. It has been revealed that one of the arrested suspects, apprehended by Mardol police, was a staff member of a BJP minister. The opposition claims that several such agents work for ministers, profiting from selling government job opportunities.
Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, the MLAs called for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) or an inquiry led by a retired High Court judge. They emphasized that the manipulation of the recruitment process by bribed agents must be addressed, as it allows unqualified candidates to secure jobs, ultimately perpetuating a cycle of corruption within government departments.
The opposition also criticized the BJP for unfulfilled promises made in 2012, such as unemployment benefits and resuming mining operations. They accused the BJP of using police officials to obstruct investigations and protect high-profile figures. “Mining dependents continue to suffer, and the unemployment crisis has worsened since BJP’s tenure began,” they added.
The MLAs questioned how the police could provide clean chits without fully investigating the scandal, checking viral audio clips, or filing proper chargesheets. “How can the police protect politicians when they haven’t even investigated how many jobs were secured through bribery?” they demanded, urging authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent inquiry.
