Bicholim Police have arrested Priya Ajay Yadav, the prime accused in a massive fraud case involving the alleged duping of multiple victims under the pretense of providing railway jobs. The arrest follows a complaint filed by Laxmi Dalawai on August 22, 2024, who reported being defrauded along with others of Rs 20.7 lakh by Yadav and her accomplice, Rohan Rajendra Venji.
The investigation uncovered that Yadav had mortgaged gold ornaments belonging to the victims to secure loans. The police have seized approximately 116 grams of gold, estimated to be worth Rs 9 lakh, and attached three vehicles connected to the accused. The scale of the fraud is believed to be over Rs 1 crore, affecting multiple residents of Bicholim.
Yadav had evaded arrest and was in hiding for nearly two months in Phulewadi, Kolhapur, Maharashtra. The breakthrough in the case came through the coordinated efforts of PSI Vikesh Hadfadkar, PC Vishal Parab, and LPC Smita Popkar, who tracked down Yadav using technical surveillance.
This operation was led by PI Dinesh Gadekar and PSI Vikesh Hadfadkar, under the supervision of SDPO Bicholim Jivba Dalvi and guidance from SP North Akshat Kaushal.
