Panaji: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has issued a show-cause notice to its Executive Committee member Elvis Gomes, accusing him of working against the party’s officially nominated Zilla Panchayat candidate in the Aldona constituency.
In the notice dated December 19, GPCC President Amit Patkar stated that a complaint was received by the AICC In-Charge alleging that Gomes had campaigned in support of an independent candidate, Alvito D’Silva, despite the Congress fielding Maria alias Mary Menezes for the Aldona ZP seat.
The letter alleges that Gomes made a video appeal urging voters to support the independent candidate, which the party says amounts to an attempt to defeat the Congress candidate and constitutes anti-party activity. It further states that as a GPCC Executive Committee member, Gomes was expected to actively support party candidates but allegedly did not participate in the campaign.
Gomes has been asked to submit his explanation within seven days, failing which disciplinary action may be initiated.
