Candolim: A tragic accident occurred in Candolim when an elderly NRI couple was hit by a speeding rental car. The accident claimed the life of 86-year-old Harish Chunnilal Solanki, while his 81-year-old wife, Chandrakanta Chunnilal Solanki, sustained serious injuries. She is currently undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College Hospital in Bambolim.
The accident took place around 10 a.m. on Friday, April 25, near the Fisherman’s Cove restaurant in Candolim. According to reports, the couple was struck by a speeding car driven by a tourist while they were walking.
The accused driver, identified as Vicky Omprakash Jain (48), a resident of Balram Nagar, Loni Dehat, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested by the Calangute Police. It is reported that Jain was traveling from Siquerim towards Calangute when he lost control and hit the couple.
Both victims were immediately rushed to the hospital; however, Harish Solanki succumbed to his injuries during treatment. British passports were reportedly found with the couple, confirming their NRI status.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by duty constable Sudatta Kapde. Further investigations are underway by Calangute Police
