Benaulim: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant attended the 4th Conference of Mining Ministers on Reforms in the Mines and Coal Sector held at Benaulim, Goa, where he reiterated the state government’s commitment to restarting mining operations on priority while ensuring sustainability, transparency and responsible mining practices.
The conference witnessed the launch of several major initiatives by Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, including the 9th Tranche of Critical Mineral Auctions, the 3rd Tranche of Exploration Licence Blocks, the MIDPAS-EKAM Mobile App and the ANVESH Mining Analytics Dashboard. The launches took place in the presence of Union Minister of State for Mines Satish Chandra Dubey and Mining Ministers from various states.
Addressing the gathering, Sawant highlighted the significant contribution of the mining sector to Goa’s economy, stating that although the state is widely recognised for its Sun, Sand and Sea, mining has traditionally been one of its important economic pillars. He pointed out that the sector has supported thousands of families and provided livelihoods to a large section of the population.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed that his government is committed to reviving mining activities in Goa, with due emphasis on sustainable development, transparent procedures and environmentally responsible practices.
Sawant also appreciated the Central Government’s continued efforts to introduce reforms in the mining sector through transparent auction mechanisms and technology-driven governance. He highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between the Centre and state governments to strengthen India’s mining ecosystem, enhance the exploration and utilisation of critical minerals and advance the country’s goal of self-reliance in this strategic sector.
