Panaji, 8th August 2025: Goa Forward Party President and MLA Vijai Sardesai today raised the urgent concerns of the people of Xelvona village in Curchorem over the proposed jetty and railway bridge project. Villagers have been living in fear of coal transportation and its impact on their health, environment, and way of life.
Responding to Sardesai’s intervention in the Assembly, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured that there will be no coal transportation through Xelvona. Further, Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira announced that the Government will withdraw the Environment Clearance granted to the project.
Sardesai welcomed the decision, stating that this was a victory for people’s unity and a clear message that Goa will not accept projects that harm its environment and communities. He reaffirmed his commitment to stand by Goans in protecting their homes, health, and future.
