Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, along with his councillors , Goa Forward Party workers, supporters, traffic police, and officials from the Margao Municipal Council (MMC), conducted an inspection from St. Joaquim Circle to Jackson Bar in Borda to identify measures to decongest traffic in the area. The inspection aimed at finding practical solutions to the growing traffic issues affecting residents and commuters.

During the inspection, several key strategies were discussed, including the construction of slip roads, the possible relocation of a chapel in Borda, the demarcation of designated parking lanes for cars and bikes in front of the Multipurpose College, and the removal of rent-a-car vehicles that have been occupying roadside spaces along Borda Road. Sardesai expressed concern over rent-a-car businesses misusing widened roads for parking, stating, “I will write a letter to the RTO to take strict action against rent-a-car owners parking their vehicles on roads that were widened for public convenience. Roads are meant for movement, not for private businesses to use as parking lots.”

Sardesai further announced that over the next 10 days, traffic police and other agencies will focus on creating awareness among the public regarding road discipline and proper parking. During this period, road markings will be drawn, and slip roads will be constructed. Following this phase, strict enforcement measures, including fines and challans, will be imposed on violators. “If discipline is not enforced, our constituency will not develop and move forward,” he stated.

Addressing the issue of overhead TV and internet cables, Sardesai reiterated that Fatorda has underground cabling infrastructure and that there is no need for unsightly overhead wires. “Overhead cables are an eyesore and should be removed immediately,” he asserted.

Sardesai also pointed to improper parking, lack of civic sense, and corruption in local bodies allowing businesses to encroach on public roads as major contributors to the traffic mess. He assured that such practices would no longer be tolerated, emphasizing that the focus remains on ensuring smooth traffic movement and improving urban planning in Fatorda.
