Panaji, August 14, 2026: The Goa Traffic Police has announced a series of traffic restrictions, road closures and diversions in Panaji in view of the Independence Day celebrations scheduled to be held on August 15 at D.B.B. Marg, in front of the Old Secretariat, Panaji.
According to the traffic advisory issued by the Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Goa, the restrictions will be implemented on August 14 and August 15 to facilitate the erection of the celebration pandal and ensure smooth conduct of the Independence Day programme.
D.B.B. Marg closure
The left-side lane of D.B.B. Marg, from Bandodkar Statue to Abade Faria Statue, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 11 am on August 14 to facilitate the erection of the pandal.
Thereafter, a complete closure of D.B.B. Marg will come into effect from 8 pm on August 14 and remain in force until the conclusion of the Independence Day function on August 15. The stretch from Ferry Wharf Junction to Bandodkar Statue will remain closed to traffic in both directions during this period.
Traffic entering Panaji
Vehicles entering Panaji through New Patto Bridge will, upon reaching Bandodkar Statue, be required to take a left turn behind the Old Secretariat.
Motorists will then proceed via Joao Castro Road and José Falcão Road/Match Corner to reach their respective destinations.
Traffic exiting Panaji
Vehicles leaving Panaji City and reaching Ferry Wharf will be diverted towards Police Headquarters–Government Printing Press Junction.
At the junction, vehicles will have to take a right turn towards UCO Bank, followed by a left turn towards Saraswati Mandir Building. Motorists will then take another left turn towards Church Square and proceed via Cortin–Old Patto Bridge/New Mala Bridge towards their respective destinations.
Parking arrangements for Independence Day parade
The stretch of M.G. Road from Abade Faria Statue to Casa International Junction will be reserved exclusively for parking vehicles of persons attending the Independence Day parade.
The Traffic Police has advised motorists to plan their journeys in advance, follow the prescribed diversions and traffic signs, and comply with instructions issued by traffic personnel. The public has also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel through the restricted areas during the closure period.
The Traffic Police has appealed to motorists and the public to cooperate with the authorities to ensure smooth movement of traffic and the successful conduct of the Independence Day celebrations in Panaji.
