Three Arrested for Attempted Murder with Gun in Anjuna

Anjuna Police have apprehended three individuals in connection with an incident involving the attempted murder using a firearm.

On January 12, 2023, Mr. Akshit Shetty, aged 30 and resident of Wadi, Sodiem, Siolim, Bardez, Goa, filed a complaint stating that earlier that day between 1:00 a.m. and 1:40 a.m., Mr. James, along with four others, entered his restaurant in Vaddy Siolim. They assaulted him with a blunt object, hurled abuses, vandalized the establishment, and proceeded to discharge a firearm at his business partner, Mr. Uday.

The police promptly registered an FIR under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder, along with charges under the Arms Act. The investigation was led by SDPO Mapusa, with the assistance of PI Anjuna Prashal Dessai and other team members.

Based on gathered information, police teams were dispatched to locate the suspects. Two of the accused individuals, Mr. James Savio D’Souza, aged 44 and resident of Dhuler Bardez, Goa, and Mr. Mohammad Sahid Maniyar, aged 29 and resident of Karaswada, Bardez, Goa, were traced and apprehended in Morjim, Pernem Goa. The pistol used in the shooting was seized from the possession of Mr. James D’Souza.

The third accused, Mr. Suraj, aged 19 and resident of Karaswada, was found at Thivim Railway Station while attempting to flee from Goa.

All three suspects have been arrested in connection with the aforementioned crime and are currently in police custody.

The case is presently under investigation, supervised by Tejeshkumar P. Naik, PSI Anjuna PS, under the overall guidance of Shri. Nidhin Valsan, IPS, SP North, Porvorim, and Shri. Jivba Dalvi, SDPO Mapusa.
