Panaji – As BJP Government is all set to spend 16 Crores on Purple Fest 2024, Parents of Specially-abled Students are compelled to Protest at Azad Maidan demanding Restart of Vocational Training & Rehabilitation Centre at Sanjay School which is shut for almost 4 months.I urge immediate intervention of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant to start the Centre immediately, stated Leader of opposition Yuri Alemao.
Reacting to the Protests held by Parents of Specailly-abled Children at Azad Maidan raising their concern over lethargic approach of the Government to provide facilities to Specially-abled Children, LOP Yuri Alemao slammed BJP Government for its insensitive & irresponsible attitude.
It is most unfortunate that the Government is so obsessed with Events. I understand that this year whopping 16 Crores will be spent on Purple Fest-2024. This amount was enough to build well equipped “Care Centre for Persons with Disabilities”. Unfortunately, Government has misplaced priorities, said Yuri Alemao.
It is sad that Government failed to identify alternate place to set up the Vocational Training and Rehabilitation Centre for last 3 months as the Building housing the Centre was declared Unsafe. Government did not bother to shift the Center till October 2023 even after a Specially-abled Student died after falling from the Building in early September. This exposes insensitivity of BJP Government, claimed Yuri Alemao.
Almost 110 Students with Intellectual and Severe Disabilities are sitting at home for past three months. The absence of their daily routine is affecting them causing behavioural issues that further create Challenges for their Parents, pointed Yuri Alemao.
BJP Government is not bothered to take Care of Persons with Dialsabilities and Specially-abled Children. Government’s focus is only on Organising Events that too by adopting to Corrupt Practices. Last year the Tender for Purple Fest-Event Management was awarded by “Fixing a Deal” and I have information that same Agency is awarded the Work this year for 16 Crores which is Double the Amount of last years expenditure, said Yuri Alemao.
