New Delhi, August 11, 2025:Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Monday voiced strong support for the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in the Assembly Constituencies of Goa Bill, calling it a “historic step towards social justice, equality, and democratic empowerment.”Speaking in the Upper House, Tanavade underscored that Scheduled Tribes have been an integral part of Goa’s cultural and social fabric, contributing immensely to its history, traditions, and development. He said the legislation seeks to address decades of inadequate political representation for these communities.Recalling a key milestone in 2003, Tanavade praised the leadership of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee and then Goa Chief Minister Padma Bhushan Late Manohar Parrikar, under whose tenure neglected communities were included in the Scheduled Tribes list.Tanavade lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar for introducing the Bill in Parliament, recognising the aspirations of Goa’s Scheduled Tribes.“This Bill is not just about redrawing constituency boundaries,” Tanavade said. “It is about reaffirming faith in our democracy, standing with historically overlooked communities, and empowering them to shape their own future.”He urged all political parties to unanimously pass the legislation, stating, “Goa may be a small state, but its spirit is immense. This law will be a guiding light for inclusive governance and the realisation of the Antyodaya philosophy.”
