Rajtilak Naik wins third term as GUJ president

Rajtilak Naik was elected president of the Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) for the third consecutive term during the Annual General Meeting and elections to the GUJ executive committee for 2024-2026 held on June 29, 2024, at the GUJ office in Panaji on Saturday.

Rajtilak secured 135 votes while his opponent Avit Bagle secured 53 votes in the results declared by the returning officer Waman Prabhu. A total of 196 voters out of 226 eligible voters exercised their franchise giving a voting percentage of 86.72. Three votes were declared invalid.

Rajtilak is working as an Assistant Photo Editor with the Goa edition of The Times of India.

Ten members of the GUJ executive committee were elected as follows:

  1. Vasudev Pagi 139 votes
  2. Amresh Parab 125 votes
  3. Sandeep Desai 120 votes
  4. Audumber Shinde 105 votes
  5. Ajay Anant Lad 118 votes
  6. Upendra Naik 100 votes
  7. Amar Patil 97 votes
  8. Vitthal Gawade (Parwadkar) 91 votes
  9. William Rodrigues 90 votes
  10. Swapnil Tari 87 votes

Other candidates polled the following number of votes and were declared unsuccessful

  1. Narayan Pissurlenkar 83 votes
  2. Pramod Thakur 80 votes
  3. Kanzil Rodrigues 73 votes
  4. Ganesh Shetkar 69 votes
  5. Baban Bhagat 63 votes
  6. Nilesh Karandikar 54 votes
  7. Dhiraj Harmalkar 46 votes
  8. Sachin Korde 45 votes
  9. Roque Dias 40 votes
  10. Anil Sanadi 36 votes

Returning Officer Waman Prabhu thanked the GUJ executive committee for organising the elections in an organised manner and all those GUJ members who provided help in conducting the election and the counting process, which includes Kishor Naik Gaonkar, Arvind Dhuri and Sagun Gawade.
