Margao: Youth Leader Prabhav Naik has raised serious concerns about the delay in trimming trees in Aquem, Margao, despite a directive from the South Goa Collector dated 23rd July 2024. Naik questioned whether the inaction by the Public Works Department (PWD) is due to government inefficiency or political pressure from a senior politician in Margao.

Naik, referring to his letter dated 22nd July 2024 and the subsequent order by the Deputy Collector instructing the PWD to carry out the trimming immediately, criticized the authorities for their failure to act. He alleged that political interference has prevented the PWD from executing the necessary work, which poses a danger to schoolchildren, senior citizens, and commuters.

“I didn’t ask for any personal favors; my demand was purely for the safety and well-being of Margao’s citizens,” Naik emphasized. “It is the responsibility of elected representatives, whether they are councilors or MLAs, to ensure the safety and security of the people. It’s disheartening that no action has been taken despite the clear order from the Collector.”

Expressing frustration over the 25-day delay, Naik urged the authorities to complete the tree-trimming work before the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival. He also appealed to the Chief Officer of Margao Municipal Council to initiate a cleanliness drive, including cutting grass along the roads and cleaning drains, in preparation for the festive season.
