Panaji Police Bust Major Gambling Den, Arrest 23 and Seize Rs. 1.26 Lakh

In a significant operation on November 11, 2024, Panaji Police cracked down on an illegal gambling den at the Panaji Municipal Market. Acting on specific intelligence, officers arrested 23 individuals caught playing the card game “Rummy.” Seized from the scene were Rs. 1.26 lakh in cash and various gambling paraphernalia.

The case, registered under Crime No. 157/2024 at Panaji Police Station, invokes Sections 3 and 4 of the Gambling Act along with Section 112(2) of BNS-2023, aimed at curbing unlawful gambling. The operation was led by Shri Sudesh R. Naik, SDPO Panaji, under the overall supervision of Shri Akshat Kaushal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North Goa. Goa Police have reiterated their commitment to combating illegal activities and maintaining public order.
