Old Goa Legal Aid Cell’s Initiative on Child Rights and Legal Awareness

The V M Salgaocar College of Law’s, Old Goa Legal Aid Cell, operating under the leadership of Director, Ms. Ashwini Naik, and guided by the experienced hand of Faculty Incharge, Dr. Ranjana Ferrao Souza Cordeiro, continues its unwavering commitment to community service. “Securing the Rights of the Child” awareness program by distinguished guest speaker, Ms. Sayona Telles-Laad, President (District sJudge Cadre), Children’s Court for the state of Goa at Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Khandola, was conducted on December 21, 2023, exemplifies the cell’s dedication to education and empowerment.

Targeting students from Shri Sarawati High School, Juvem, and Shri Sharada English High School, Marcela, the program aimed to instill awareness regarding child rights, with a focus on the Goa Children’s Act, 2003. By involving the youth, the initiative sought to create a ripple effect, fostering a sense of responsibility and advocacy within the community.

The core objective of the program was to educate attendees on critical issues, such as child abuse and the protection of identities on online platforms. In a digital age where children are increasingly exposed to cyber threats, the initiative provided wisdom to ensure their safety and privacy.

The expertise of Guest Speaker, Ms. Sayona Telles-Laad gave a valuable legal perspective, enriching the discourse on child rights and legal protections. The event witnessed the supportive presence of Purnakala Sawant, Principal of Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Khandola, alongside the constant encouragement from Faculty Incharge, Dr. Ranjana Ferrao Souza Cordeiro.
