In a recent assembly session, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar voiced support for the tourism and IT demands, while highlighting critical infrastructure gaps in his constituency. He began by congratulating Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte for Goa Tourism’s accolades, including the “Destination of the Year” award at the PATWA Travel Awards and the “Tourism Minister of the Year” award at ITB Berlin 2024.
Amonkar emphasized the growing number of tourists at Baina beach, both domestic and international, and pointed out the lack of basic amenities such as toilets, changing rooms, and restrooms. He urged the Tourism Minister to address these infrastructure needs promptly.
He also highlighted several pending tourism projects requiring urgent attention:
- Beautification along the service road from Desterro to Baina.
- Provision of a viewer’s gallery on the Baina flyover.
- An innovative “Suspension Glass Bridge” project in Mormugao.
- Development of tourism at Bat Island through potential chopper services.
- Redevelopment of the Japanese Garden at Headland Sada.
In the realm of Information Technology (IT), Amonkar stressed the need for:
- Ensuring every household in Mormugao constituency receives internet connectivity under the Har Ghar Fibre Scheme.
- Establishing a Citizen Service Centre (CSC) in Mormugao for easy access to essential documents.
- Activating free Wi-Fi hotspots at strategic locations in the constituency.
- Installing CCTV security systems at key points like Baina beach, Headland Sada Junction, Bogda, and near schools and religious sites.
Amonkar also advocated for introducing drone technology education and a drone licensing authority in the state, suggesting the unused sub-jail at Sada as a potential site for this institution. Additionally, he called for more focus on robotics and coding education at the school level to inspire youth and promote innovation in science and technology.
These comprehensive demands and proposals aim to enhance both tourism and IT infrastructure in Mormugao, ensuring better services and safety for residents and visitors alike.
