Margao – It is really frightening to see school children braving their lives while walking & crossing roads on their way to School & back home due to continuous movement of traffic including heavy vehicles. Government must immediately take steps to resolve the traffic congestion issue in Margao, demanded Youth Leader Prabhav Naik.

Addressing a press conference in Margao, Prabhav Naik demanded that Government must take pro-active steps to shift the School which are in the heart of the city to Davorlim where a land is already identified to create a School Complex on lines with Cujira Complex in Bambolim.

I appeal to South Goa Collector to take up a drive to demarcate the parking zones on all major roads of Margao. These zones need to be painted with white lines and proper sign boards needs to be erected showing demarcation of four wheelers, two wheelers, three wheelers etc., stated Prabhav Naik.

Government should also deploy maximum traffic personnels on all main roads of the city to regulate traffic movement and parking. Strict action should be taken against violators. Traffic Police and RTO should get into coordinated efforts to resolve the traffic congestion in Margao, said Prabhav Naik.

Old Bus Stand needs to be utilised for Parking with proper demarcation of the area. It has now become a dumping yard of accidental vehicles which are lying there for months, thus blocking space for regular parking of vehicles, pointed Prabhav Naik.

It is high time that strict monitoring of City Buses as well as Buses passing through Margao is undertaken as there is absolutely no discipline in them to pickup and drop passengers. Buses stop anywhere and everywhere causing traffic jams. Collector must undetake a Survey and notify Bus Stops in the City, said Prabhav Naik.

I hope the South Goa Collector as well as the Government will take note of the issues raised by me and initiate immediate action to give relief to Citizens of Margao as well as thousands of Goans who visit Margao daily, Prabhav Naik said.

Earlier in the day, Prabhav Naik submitted a Memorandum to South Goa Collector on Traffic Issues in Margao. He was accompanied by Mukesh Patel, Vipul Solanki, Tanuja Vernekar, Ashok Zambodkar and
Prakash Shetkar.
