Margao – Congratulations to proud Goan Suyash Kamat, who graced Red Carpet at Cannes Film Festival as Director’s Assistant & 2nd Unit Cinematographer for the film “All We Imagine as Light”, first Indian entry in Main Competition Section category in 30 years at Cannes Film Festival, said Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao.

I also Congratulate proud Goan Akshay Parvatkar, an alumnus of FTII, who attended the Cannes film Festival as part of a fellowship by Walkers & Co, in collaboration with Film Companion for their initiative “The Walkers Project”. Best Wishes for his future endeavours, Yuri Alemao said.

It is indeed a proud moment for Goa that our talented youths are making a mark at the International Level participating in prestigious events like Cannes Film Festival. Ironically, Government of Goa has failed to promote the local Film Makers in last eleven years, claimed Yuri Alemao.

Congress Government has initiated the Goa Film Finance Scheme for the local Film Makers and had given opportunity to many Goan Film Makers to screen their Films in Official Section of International Film Festival of India. Unfortunately, BJP Government kept the said scheme dormant in last eleven years, said Yuri Alemao.

Government must focus on promoting Local Film Makers rather than spending public funds on “Film City” project which is now an outdated concept. Technology has changed and now things can be done on Computers. Government’s focus should be on Film Schools and Institutes in Film Making, stated Yuri Alemao.

I demand that Entertainment Society of Goa must announce Rewards for the young talented youths who make a mark at the International Level. ESG needs to formulate a Scheme to recognise the achievements of all such film makers and others associated in film industry, demanded Yuri Alemao.

I will once again take up this issue of Government Assistance for local Film Makers in the upcoming Assembly Session. Government has miserably failed to promote local talent and is wasting money of Events promoting non-Goan performers, charged Yuri Alemao.
