Panaji: The clear admission by the Chairman of GSPCB Mahesh Patil stating that they have no recent record of the validity of permissions granted to Sewage Treatment Plant at Baga exposes the insensitivity of the BJP Government towards the health of the people and marine life. It is loud and clear that Goa State Pollution Control Board is leaving it at the mercy of the Sewage Treatment Plants and Sewage Tankers to dispose the Sewage without any Scientific Treatment, charged Congress General Secretary Capt. Viriato Fernandes.

Congress Delegation comprising of Amarnath Panjikar, Lourenco Silveira, Vivek D’Silva, Everson Valles, Virendra Shirodkar, Vijai Bhike, Muktmala Shirodkar, Atul Naik, John Nazareth, Pranav Parab,Sonal Malvankar, Ramkrishna Jalmi,Rajan Korgaonkar,Palegia Raposo and others today met the Chairman of GSPCB and submitted a Memorandum demanding action against the Sewage Treatment Plant at Baga which is discharging Untreated Sewage Water in the Baga River.

There is absolutely no control of the GSPCB on the Sewage Treatment Plants in Goa as well as the Tankers transporting Sewage. It appeared that GSPCB is clueless about the Exact Methodology adopted by the Sewage Treatment Plants as well as Sewage Tankers to dispose the Sewage. Our Rivers and Paddy Fields are polluted as the Sewage is discharged in the same, pointed Congress Media Cell Chairman Amarnath Panjikar.

The Sewage Treatment Plant at Baga is operating without Consent to Operate and discharging the waste in Baga River. Despite various complaints, the GSPCB did not take any action till date. We demand that the operations of the said Sewage Treatment Plant should be stopped immediately, demanded Youth Congress Leader Vivek D’Silva.

Congress Party is up in arms against various Government Departments on the issue of Sewage Tankers. We will not stop here and continue with our movement till a permanent solution on Scientific Disposal of Sewage is derived by the Government, stated Lorenco Silveira.
