Goa Government Seals Club Involved in Looting Tourist, Two Arrested

Panaji, June 3: The Goa government on Monday sealed a club in Calangute involved in allegedly looting a tourist from Gujarat, according to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

“Following reports of extortion by touts for illegal activities in Calangute, two suspects have been arrested and the club has been sealed. Further action against the club’s owners is being initiated. The state administration has previously acted tough against such establishments and will continue to crack down on any illegal activity,” the CMO stated.

The incident occurred in the beach area of Calangute in North Goa. Two staff members of the club were arrested after allegedly looting a tourist from Gujarat. Calangute Police Inspector Paresh Naik reported that Patel Bhavinkumar, 35, from Sabarkantha, Gujarat, lodged a complaint. He stated that the accused lured him into the club with offers of various illegal services and subsequently extorted Rs 44,000 from him.

“The club owner and his staff, including Varun Prajapati and Candan Ghadhai, extorted money from the complainant. We have arrested the club staff involved,” the police stated.

The accused individuals, Varun Prajapati and Candan Ghadhai, have been arrested, and efforts are underway to apprehend the club owner and other involved parties.

Local sources indicate that the panchayat and administration will soon take action against clubs operating illegally in the Calangute area.
