Panaji: Goa Forward Party General Secretary Durgadas Kamat has accused the government of ignoring its own Private Member Resolution on unsafe buildings, which was discussed in the Assembly on 26th July 2024 and moved by MLA Daji Salkar. The resolution had urged the government to conduct time-bound structural audits of all residential and multi-dwelling buildings over 30 years old.

Despite an assurance on the Assembly floor that the matter would be taken up with departments like Disaster Management, TCP, Revenue, and PWD, and that a bill would be introduced in the next session (which ended in March 2025), no progress has been made.

GFP President Vijai Sardesai had suggested the government adopt a model similar to the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act’s Section 353B, which mandates structural audits and necessary repairs for buildings over 30 years old, He tweeted.

Kamat demanded that the government act immediately on its commitment to address the issue of unsafe buildings.
