The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has formally requested the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to investigate remarks made by Goa Law Minister Alex Sequeira regarding the widespread availability of drugs in the state. In a letter addressed to the NCB, Congress Vice President Sunil Kawthankar expressed serious concerns over the Minister’s statement, made on August 15, 2024, claiming that “drugs are available everywhere.”

The Congress has called for an inquiry into the basis of Sequeira’s claims and urged authorities to question the Minister regarding his knowledge of drug networks operating in Goa. The letter further emphasized that Sequeira’s statement not only undermines law enforcement agencies but also sends a dangerous message to the public. The party stressed the importance of taking strong measures to dismantle the drug networks and prevent Goa from becoming a “Narco Republic.”

The Congress has urged the NCB to take immediate action and keep them updated on the progress of the investigation.
