Goa Charts Sustainable Maritime Future at India Maritime Week 2025

The Captain of Ports Department, Government of Goa, marked a strong presence at the inaugural Goa State Session of India Maritime Week 2025, held in Mumbai under the theme “Blue Meets Green: Goa’s Model for Sustainable Maritime Development.”

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant reaffirmed Goa’s commitment to building a vibrant, green, and globally competitive maritime ecosystem under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal. The session was attended by River Navigation Minister Subhash Phal Dessai and Ports Minister Digambar Kamat.

Dr. Sawant presided over the signing of several key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at accelerating Goa’s maritime growth and sustainability:
🔹 Inland Waterways Authority of India and Captain of Ports Department, Govt. of Goa – Development of National Waterways with financial support of ₹200 crore.
🔹 Atlantic & Pacific LNG and Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) – Setting up of an LNG facility at Mormugao Port with an investment of ₹3,500 crore.
🔹 Marinetek Pvt. Ltd. and MPA – Construction of a floating marina for small and medium crafts at Mormugao Port worth ₹25 crore.
🔹 Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) and MPA – Installation and commissioning of a 2 MWp solar power plant at Mormugao Port.

The Chief Minister also launched the Goa Maritime & Waterways Infrastructure Development Vision Document, a strategic roadmap for clean, efficient, and sustainable maritime growth. The document outlines Goa’s Maritime & Waterways Development Plan, which focuses on developing green and efficient routes to boost tourism, cargo movement, and the state’s blue economy.

Dr. Sawant said the Shipbuilding Promotion Plan envisions transforming Goa into a green, smart, and export-driven shipbuilding hub by 2037. Through the Goa Institute of Maritime Excellence (GIME), established in collaboration with Ganpat University, the government aims to equip Goan youth with advanced maritime education and global-level skill development opportunities.

He further announced that the upcoming Goa Maritime Board will unify ports, shipbuilding, tourism, and green energy under one integrated platform, enhancing coordination and efficiency.

“Goa’s ‘Blue Meets Green’ vision demonstrates that progress and sustainability can sail together, steering the state toward becoming a Model Maritime State and contributing to the national vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047,” Dr. Sawant stated.
