The Goa Bachao Abhiyan (GBA) has raised serious concerns about the Bhutani project in Sancoale, citing numerous irregularities that could jeopardize the environment and public interest. In a letter to the Goa Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), the GBA has called for immediate action to deregister the project, known as Acqua Eden, under Section 7 of the RERA Act, highlighting violations of regulatory norms and lack of transparency.
Despite facing multiple legal challenges through Public Interest Litigations (PILs), the project has already attracted over 220 investors, according to the GBA. The organization also criticized the developer, Parmesh Construction Company Ltd, for failing to follow necessary procedural steps. While some permits were secured in October, the project still lacks the essential environmental clearance, a fundamental requirement.
The project, which involves constructing 685 pools in a water-scarce village, has met strong opposition from local residents. The GBA pointed out that the construction site, characterized by steep slopes and forested areas, is unsuitable for such large-scale development. The site also lacks proper infrastructure and road access. Furthermore, the failure to disclose the ongoing PILs raises serious concerns about the project’s transparency.
In their letter, GBA convener Sabina Martins and secretary Reboni Saha urged RERA to intervene promptly to protect the environment and the interests of potential investors.
