On 10th August 2024, at 07:44 AM, the Calangute Police Station received a call from PCR Panaji, reporting the discovery of a male body near Xavier Shack, Baga. The police quickly arrived at the scene, where they found the body of a man, aged between 30 to 35 years, lying on the seashore opposite Indian Beach Restaurant, Khobravaddo, Calangute. The victim was dressed in a black round-neck T-shirt, blue jeans, blue underwear, and black sandals, with visible bleeding injuries on his body.
An Unnatural Death Case No. 64/2024 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 was initially registered. The police began efforts to identify the deceased and review CCTV footage from the area.
Following the autopsy report, on 12th August 2024, at 9:10 PM, the case was reclassified as a murder under Calangute PS Crime No. 103/2024, Section 103 of BNSS, 2023. It was alleged that, before 07:44 AM on 10th August 2024, unknown assailants had assaulted the victim with a sharp weapon, causing multiple bleeding injuries, leading to his death.
Through the investigation and analysis of CCTV footage, three suspects were identified: Sahil alias Vishal Bhatnagar (28), a resident of Calangute originally from Nainital, Uttarakhand; Sunil Vishwakarma (22), also residing in Calangute and originally from Dang, Nepal; and Noor Mohammad (27), from Parra, Bardez, originally from Muradabad, Uttar Pradesh. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the murder, claiming the crime was committed under sudden provocation. They were arrested on 13th August 2024 and are currently in police custody.
The suspects, known for petty thefts, were apprehended through the combined efforts of SDPO Povorim, Shri Vishwesh Karpe, PI Calangute, Shri Paresh G. Naik, and a dedicated team of police officers and personnel, under the overall supervision of the Superintendent of Police, North, Shri Akshat Kaushal, IPS, who played a key role in swiftly identifying and apprehending the accused.
