In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections, senior AAP Goa leader Francis Coelho, along with several other party members, has resigned from the party.
Coelho’s decision points to a very different question: is another separate Opposition front really what Goa’s political mood is asking for?

Congress leaders have publicly maintained that they are open to working with like-minded forces, while recent statements from GFP president Vijai Sardesai have also indicated that his party could consider a realignment depending on public
There is no personal attack and no bitterness.
Coelho has made it clear that his decision comes from a simple political conviction: his first commitment is to Goa.
“I entered public life because I love Goa,” is the essence of his message.
He has said that he is no longer in sync with the current alliance politics of AAP Goa and that, in the best interests of Goa, he believes it is time to step away.
For a politician who has spent considerable time building his identity around local issues and public engagement, the decision is more than an organisational resignation. It is a statement about the kind of political alignment he believes Goa needs.
Coelho’s resignation now adds a local political voice to that wider debate.
For Coelho, this is clearly not an exit from public life.
His resignation makes that distinction deliberately clear. He leaves the party while thanking its leadership and colleagues and stressing that he has no bitterness or animosity towards anyone. His political association may change, but his commitment to Goa does not.
