ESG Invites Entries for Statewide Aakash Kandil Competition at IFFI 2025

The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), in collaboration with the Government of Goa, has announced a State-level Aakash Kandil (lantern-making) competition as part of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025. The initiative aims to celebrate Goa’s rich cultural traditions while encouraging creativity and community participation through beautifully crafted and innovative lantern designs.

Participation Details:
The competition is open to all residents of Goa, with a maximum of 600 entries accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis, limited to 50 entries per taluka. Each participant will receive ₹500 as a token of appreciation. The last date to register is November 18, 2025, by 5 pm. Participants must submit their completed Aakash Kandils on November 20 between 10 am and 12:30 pm at the ESG office. ESG will provide holders, bulbs, and electricity connections for display. To promote eco-friendly creativity, thermocol materials are not allowed.

Judging and Prizes:
Each taluka will have three winners, who will receive prizes of ₹5,000 (first), ₹3,000 (second), and ₹2,000 (third) respectively. The decisions of the panel of judges will be final.

ESG’s Aakash Kandil competition offers Goans an opportunity to add a festive glow to IFFI 2025 by blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative artistry, highlighting the spirit and creativity of Goa on a vibrant platform.
