Drunk Driver Causes Fatal Accident at Old Mandovi Bridge; One Worker Dead, Two Injured

In the early hours of August 22, 2024, a tragic incident occurred on the Old Mandovi Bridge near Panaji, where a Maruti Celerio ZXI, driven by Sanket Shet, resident of Volvoi, Ponda, Goa, under the influence of alcohol, crashed into workers engaged in road repair. The vehicle, bearing registration number GA-05 F-6447, struck three workers—Abhayrai Nirmal, Amit Yadav, and Dhiraj Sharma, all residents of Uttar Pradesh—causing grievous injuries.

The car subsequently collided with a parked Jet Patcher machine, used for filling potholes, bearing registration number HR-55 AJ-7469. Sadly, Amit Yadav, aged 24, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at GMC Bambolim. The case has been registered under sections 281, 105, 125(a), 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, and section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. The accused, Sanket Shet, has been arrested and is in custody.
