Divar Island celebrated India’s 77th Independence Day, marking freedom in a special way

Goa, August 17, 2023: The RAKSHAK program which is a joint initiative between ‘Manipal Hospitals Goa’ and the ‘Govt of Goa’ under Swayampurna Mitra initiative to empower everyone with ‘Pre Hospital Care and Basic Life Support Training skills’ was launched on 29th September 2022 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa.

Thereafter in association with the office of BDO Tiswadi, the Village Panchayat Members of ‘Goltim – Navelim Village Panchayat’ & Village Panchayat of ‘São Mathias’ were trained under the RAKSHAK program.
As the women of Divar Island are always on the Island and as they would be the first ones to respond in case of any disaster, the need was felt to now train these women of Divar Island under the RAKSHAK program.

Accordingly, on 13th August, Manipal Hospitals Goa in association with Taluka Nodal Officer –Tiswadi Village Panchayat, BDO Tiswadi & Matrubharati Unit at St Aloysius High School at Divar Island, conducted the ‘Pre Hospital Care and Basic Life Support Training’ under the “RAKSHAK’ for the women of Divar Island. The Medial Training was provided by the Emergency and Trauma [Casualty] Team of Doctors and EMT from Manipal Hospitals Goa led by Dr. Vyas Vishwanathan, who did a thorough job of providing theoretical and practical hands-on session for the Women of Divar Island
On 15th August Indian Independence Day, the Women of Divar Island trained under RAKSHAK were felicitated and awarded Certificates at a special function held at St Aloysius High School, Divar Island.

These certificates were awarded at the hands of Shri. Hari Prasad-Sales and Marketing Head of Manipal Hospitals Goa, ‘Mrs. Aisha A Vaingankar, Nodal Officer for Tiswadi Taluka, and at the hands of Shri.Anand Fadte, Head Master of the St Aloysius High School at Divar Island.
Now with this training, a good number of the Women of Divar Island can now save lives in case of an accident!
