Goa, 2nd August– Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte today welcomed Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant’s decision to safeguard the houses of common people under the 20-Point Programme.

Khaunte addressed a press conference in his chamber following the Chief Minister’s statement in the Assembly regarding a private member’s resolution about houses under the 20-Point Programme.

The Chief Minister assured the Assembly that the matter would be examined legally to protect the houses of the poor. Once the matter is legally examined, the government will provide a solution, he said. Without examining the different aspects, it is difficult to arrive at a decision, the Chief Minister stated. This assurance by the Chief Minister to the Assembly is a welcome step, said Khaunte. He added that it would provide significant relief to people living in the 20-Point Programme.

Khaunte mentioned that recently, some supporters of the opposition Congress party moved to the High Court against 64 residents of the 20-Point Colony in Socorro with political vendetta. A few days ago, he met the Chief Minister along with those 64 affected residents, requesting justice for these common people.

Khaunte stated that the government is actively working on a methodology to assist residents who are genuinely in need. Plans to regularize the status of affected households under specific legislative acts are being examined to ensure that those who comply with the regulations receive appropriate support.

The Minister emphasized that the 20-Point Programme was designed with a clear purpose: to offer relief to landless individuals. During the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed his intention to explore possible solutions for the housing issues in the 20-Point Settlement.

Today’s statement from the Chief Minister is encouraging and underscores the state government’s commitment to the welfare of common citizens, Khaunte said.
