CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Chairs 2024 Goa State Geological Programming Board Meeting, Unveils Geological and Mineral Map of Goa

Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant chaired the 2024 Goa State Geological Programming Board Meeting today, unveiling the Geological and Mineral Map of Goa, as well as District Resource Maps for North and South Goa. Shri Narayan Gad, Director of Mines and Geology, along with other dignitaries and officials, were present.

Key agenda items included:

  • Discussions on exploration of mining leases funded by the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET).
  • Deliberations on empanelment of agencies under the Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG).
  • Plans to strengthen the DMG office with a new laboratory for mineral analysis, equipped with advanced instruments via NMET funds.
  • Study of existing dumps by DMG-empanelled agencies using NMET funds.

The Geological Survey of India (GSI) will support DMG Goa in preparing NMET funding proposals and geological reports for upcoming mineral block auctions. The Goa Government is committed to using advanced technology and scientific methods for efficient and environmentally responsible mineral resource utilization.

CM Dr. Pramod Sawant reviewed the status of all nine auctioned mining blocks to ensure speedy clearances and the resumption of mining activities. Present at the meeting were auction holders and officers from the Pollution Control Board, Environment Department, and Forest Department. The State Environment Impact Assessment Authority has been directed to expedite the granting of Environmental Clearances, with other officials urged to grant permissions swiftly.

It is projected that around 3-4 mines will be operational by September-October 2024. Additionally, CM Sawant directed the auction lease holder of Shirgao to exclude the area surrounding Shri Lairai Temple and nearby habitation.
